The city of Auburn
is located in Androscoggin
County, near Maine's
mountainous and coastal areas. Auburn, and the city of Lewiston,
which is found across the Androscoggin River, are thought to be twin cities.
No matter what the season, Auburn has much to offer its visitors. In the winter
months the activities are endless and many of winter's popular sports can be
enjoyed. Tourists commonly skate at indoor and outdoor skating rinks, snowmobile, cross-country ski, toboggan, downhill ski, and snowboard. At the local
ski hill in the month of January, Lost Valley's Auburn
WinterFest is held. The event celebrates winter's fun activities with innovation
and uniqueness. Also hosted by the Lost Valley Ski Hill is Fall
Festival at Lost Valley.
During the summer months there are numerous events
and entertainment shows that appeal to the whole family. The Great
Falls Balloon Festival is immensely popular, and visitors from near and
far flock to Auburn and Lewiston to watch as colorful hot-air balloons are launched
into the sky. A fireworks show, free entertainment, and craft vendors are also
featured at this festival. Outdoor sport enthusiasts can hike, bike, swim, or
golf while taking advantage of the warm weather and green landscape.
