The city of Auburn is located in Androscoggin County, near Maine's mountainous and coastal areas. Auburn, and the city of Lewiston, which is found across the Androscoggin River, are thought to be twin cities.No matter what the season, Auburn has much to offer its visitors. In the winter months the activities are endless and many of winter's popular sports can be enjoyed. Tourists commonly skate at indoor and outdoor skating rinks, snowmobile, cross-country ski, toboggan, downhill ski, and snowboard. At the local ski hill in the month of January, Lost Valley's Auburn WinterFest is held. The event celebrates winter's fun activities with innovation and uniqueness. Also hosted by the Lost Valley Ski Hill is Fall Festival at Lost Valley.
During the summer months there are numerous events and entertainment shows that appeal to the whole family. The Great Falls Balloon Festival is immensely popular, and visitors from near and far flock to Auburn and Lewiston to watch as colorful hot-air balloons are launched into the sky. A fireworks show, free entertainment, and craft vendors are also featured at this festival. Outdoor sport enthusiasts can hike, bike, swim, or golf while taking advantage of the warm weather and green landscape.
