Welcome to Cape Porpoise!
Situated along State Highway 9 on the south coast of Maine, the small village of Cape Porpoise is best known as one of four communities that make up the Kennebunks. English settlers began arriving at Cape Porpoise in the 1620s and four centuries later people are still drawn to the picturesque village and harbor. Some are summer visitors who come to the Kennebunks for its beaches; some are resident artists who draw inspiration from its coastal New England landscapes. Others are owners of the working lobster boats who have called the active fishing port home for years.Visitors wanting to enjoy the haul of those boats can partake in freshly steamed lobster at a chowder house right on the water or buy the catch of the day directly from fisherman on the pier. One can also spot Goat Island Lighthouse from the village, an area landmark since the early 1800s whose recent history includes housing secret service agents for its vantage point of former US President George H W Bush’s nearby estate. Farther along towards Kennebunkport, Goose Rocks Beach is a 3-mi (5-km) stretch of smooth, silvery sand that is named after Goose Rocks, an offshore rock formation that is visible during low tide.
