Held in Lewiston and Auburn, and one of New England's largest hot air balloon festivals, The Great Falls Balloon Festival occurs in August each year. In addition to the balloons launches, occurring each day at 6am and 6pm, there is a fireworks show, live music, entertainment, performances, vendors, carnival rides, and activities.

The Bates Dance Festival takes place at Bates College. There are two professional programs, one for youth aged 13 to 17, and another for those who are 18 years or older. As well, there are a series of main-stage performances and community outreach activities.
