Welcome to Saco!
Originally, the site of Saco, Maine belonged to the Sokoki tribe of Abenaki Indians. Although granted township in 1630, the settlement faced continual conflict, being attacked by the Sokoki tribe, and repeatedly invaded during the battles between New England and New France.Situated next to the Saco River, the city of Saco, and its twin city Biddeford, offer numerous choices for water activities and outdoor recreation. Biking, boating, hiking, and kayaking are popular activities enjoyed by the locals and vistors. For a more thrilling adventure, Saco's Funtown Splashtown USA and Aquaboggan Water Park are exciting amusement parks that families and children immensely enjoy. At Aquaboggan there are a variety of water slides, a hydro half-pipe, and a large wave pool. A mini golf course and a go cart track are also featured.
The downtown area of Saco contains restaurants, shops, the Saco Museum, and Dyer Library. A variety of events are held here, like the annual Pumpkin Fest, the Saco Sidewalk Art Festival, and the Saco Bay Race Weekend.
